What is the working principle of whirlwind milling?

Whirlwind milling is a special high-efficiency thread processing machine. It uses the carbide forming cutter installed on the high-speed rotating cutter head to mill the thread from the workpiece. It is named whirlwind milling because of its high milling speed, high machining efficiency and using compressed air for chip removal and cooling. Whirlwind milling can achieve dry cutting, heavy load cutting, difficult to machine materials and ultra-high speed cutting, with low power consumption. Whirlwind milling machine tool spindle speed is slow, so the machine tool movement accuracy is high, dynamic stability is good, is an advanced thread processing method.

In the process of whirlwind milling, five machining movements need to be completed:

1. The cutter head drives the carbide forming cutter to rotate at high speed (main movement).

2. The spindle of machine tool drives the workpiece to rotate slowly (auxiliary motion).

3. According to the pitch or lead of the workpiece, the whirlwind mill moves along the axial direction of the workpiece (feed motion).

4. Radial movement of whirlwind milling (cutting movement).

5. In a certain angle range, the whirlwind mill has the freedom of adjusting the helix angle. (rotational motion).
